The Canal area, the turf team doing an amazing job of cutting long straight lines into the lawn. |
I worked with Andy today who looks after the Canal area. Around the central steps leading straight down to the canal, the turf has grown too close to the edge of the walls and had lost 'it's edges', Andy had already cut away the excess turf from one side, but the other side needed doing to keep it symmetrical. With a tape measure, we measured the turf to be 50cm away from the wall and used metal poles and string before we used a turf cutter to cut off the extra bits. Then we dug out any excess soil and straightened the thin soil borders out around the sections of lawn we were cutting, and raked it over.

In the afternoon we had a quick intro to insects, we were given our entomology project, where we have to collect 10 different pests of economic importance.

W at the beginning of the plant accession number and stands for the garden Wisley, it is followed by the year it was brought in and then four unique identity numbers (a total of 7 figures). Any ones different to this rule are pre-1997. There is also a form for plants that are moved, they are given qualifier numbers and for plants that have been given out externally (e.g a cutting).
