Worked with Enrico on the Mixed Borders. Finished planting the Stachys officinalis 'Hummelo' I started on the 25th. Planted in a bright pink Phlox paniculata that Enrico had reduced and grouped closer together. After I pulled out some gloopy spent Agapanthus leaves. Then weeded around some Aconitum carmichaelii (Wilsonii Group) 'Barker's Variety' riddled with bindweed, digging it out where I could. Hoed out weeds between the gaps of them including some Anemone hupehensis that had grown in between them. Deadheaded Echinops to green flush leaves. Took off dead Ipomoea from support structures and raked, hoed out weeds from the rest of the bed to finish it off.

Principles of Mixed Borders (see 13th Oct), no self sowers, plants to sit just so next to each other to give a formality in contrast to informality in other areas of the garden. Leaving more winter interests. Hardly feeds border except for Vitax Q4 when replanting or planting in shrubs.
