The beds have been replanted after the butterfly event as they had been heavily trampled. This week it has been sprayed to get rid of the last of the butterflies, which many naturally die off, but some species remain and are breeding in there. Staff work overtime to spray in the evenings. They sprayed Spruzit and Pyrethrum 5EC this week. The smell of chemicals was still strong the morning after so we kept the doors open. Cockroaches crawl onto the path twitching their last breath. The Mix A soil that they use is a dry & grey very free draining soil. To improve the look the of the soil a mulch of fine bark is put on top. So as part of the morning duties up until 10am, we have been working through the Tropical Display area re-mulching the beds.

I also helped Dave prune a ficus tree, we used the cherry picker. We cut it back quite hard as it is very vigorous. It was badly affected by mealy bug, raining on everything around it.
