Then we had our allotment day. It was very enjoyable and it was the first time the trainees had all gardened together, it was nice straightforward work, we are mypexing the paths and then putting woodchip on top of that at a later point. First we raked the soil paths evenly, consolidating it with the Wisley shuffle then raking it again. There were clod of turf in some areas and it felt like it was a good thing to take them out as it made it incredibly uneven and hard to smooth out. Then we went around the edges of the beds with a spade to make slits for the mypex to slip into, also using the spade to push the mypex into the slits. Although this holds the mypex well and is definitely a good enough method, Robert pointed out that someone he knew who had an allotment, extended the mypex to inside of the beds and stapled it on the inside to the wood. We were pinning the mypex down with just fence wire cut and shaped.
