Department: Plant Centre

Was given a list of new stock plants that would be coming in over the next couple of days. Had to go round checking that there was space for them, if not to rearrange plants to make space. The outdoor plant area is roughly set out with tree section at the back, A - Z Herbaceous Perennials, A - Z Shrubs (Photo 1), and smaller sections of Alpines, Conifers, Hedging, Climbers, Clematis, Rhododendrons, Camellias, Roses and display areas (usually at the end of the rows of the main sections).

I also had to make sure that the head cards (Photo 2) - laminated plant profile cards that slots into a metal frame and clips onto frames above the plants or on display platforms etc. were in place. They usually give the full latin name of the plant & cultivar, the common name, short description, description of flowers and when it flowers, site requirements & height. If there wasn't one I had to find one to put out (there are spare ones stored) or put an order in for one to be made up. Any head cards on display but not the plants anymore were dismantled and the frames & cards re-stored separately.
