We are doing a lot of Salvia cuttings at the moment for Formal. I did cuttings of S. x jamensis 'Nachtvlinder' - a dark purple flowered one. Depending on how long the internodes were we cut them down to 2 - 3 nodes long, leaving the tip growth, we cut off the rest of the leaves except when the tip leaves were still very small, then we may leave two leaves below these, but if they were a bit big we cut them in half. We used a flat slate slab to cut them on. We stuck these into P84 modules, one cutting per cell. If excess leaves touched the soil we snipped them off. Then we placed them on the mist bench.

I also took cutting material of Salvia 'Waverly' - 90 cuttings were requested but I only managed to get approx. 60 off the stock plants. They may have to grow the plant on longer to obtain more. This is why they pinch the out a lot to encourage more side shoots etc. Cutting material that weren't able to be dealt with straightaway were placed in the fridge.
