Department: Herbaceous

It was the 2nd Grand Curatorial Day. Today we were helping Herbaceous do cutting back on the Glasshouse Borders. I was in the group that cut down all the coloured stems at the back of the border. It is a little early for them, but we did it because it was an opportunity for them to have this done whilst there was so many people. It was mainly Salix - alba var. vitellina 'Yelverton' - an orangey, reddy, yellow one. We cut it down to generally two nodes. I also did a dark black/ brown one, slightly less vigorous and more thin stemmed one called S. gracilistyla 'Melanostachys'.

The grasses were also cut down in the border.
